School Uniform

A culture of respect begins with how we carry ourselves. At BSG, our Dress Code is more than a set of rules—it is a commitment to excellence, shared by every student, every day.

Dress Code

At The British School in Gothenburg, we believe that how students present themselves is a reflection of personal pride, respect for the school community, and readiness to engage in learning. Our Dress Code is not merely about clothing—it is an extension of our core values of integrity, responsibility, and unity.

A Shared Standard of Excellence

As ambassadors of BSG, our students represent the school both on campus and in the wider community. Whether in classrooms, at school events, or during excursions, we expect students to demonstrate self-respect through appropriate, neat, and purposeful attire. The way our students dress communicates a message—not only about themselves but about the school and its culture of high standards.

The Dress Code fosters:

  • A professional and inclusive learning environment where focus remains on academic growth

  • A sense of belonging through a consistent, shared identity

  • Respect for self and others by encouraging personal responsibility and appropriate choices

  • Minimised distractions, enabling all students to concentrate fully on their education

Purpose-Driven Attire

Our Dress Code is designed with balance in mind: it encourages a sense of pride and unity, while also allowing for appropriate levels of student choice and expression. Students are expected to wear attire that is:

  • Clean, modest, and in good repair

  • Suited to the school context, with clothing choices reflecting the serious nature of academic engagement

  • Appropriate for the weather, particularly in Sweden’s varied climate

We guide students to dress in a way that respects cultural diversity and supports a welcoming, non-judgmental environment.

Dress Code in Practice

The BSG Dress Code applies during school hours, at school functions, and on educational trips. Students are expected to dress in accordance with the code unless specific exemptions are communicated in advance (e.g., non-uniform days or performance costumes). Breaches of the Dress Code are treated as an opportunity to reflect on choices and are addressed with sensitivity and consistency.

Partnering with Parents

We work closely with families to support the Dress Code, recognising that home and school share responsibility in preparing students to make respectful, mature decisions. Parents are encouraged to contact the school with any questions regarding appropriate attire or specific clothing requirements for school activities.
